So what is the difference between IP and Analog CCTV?

Well, put in simple terms, an analog CCTV is a security camera which records the video feed on a device called a Digital Video Recorder.

An Internet Protocol (IP) camera feeds the video stream to an IP address which allows the IP camera to then be recorded over a Network Video Recorder.

So which one is the better option?

There is no doubt that the technology has evolved significantly over recent years with newer, faster, sharper CCTV available now. IP CCTV is definitely worth spending the few extra pennies on in order to allow you to enjoy a safer, more secure recording process which will in turn provide you with better peace of mind that your home or business is secure. Here’s why;

Video Surveillance

♦  IP cameras are more efficient and produce a clearer image.

♦  Analog cameras require the installation of the (Digital Video Recorder) as well as the camera system so it can be more time consuming with lots of wires and the risk of short circuit.

♦  An IP camera is relatively easier to install and use.

♦  The IP camera allows the images to be sent directly to an IP address which means that effectively, the feed would be accessible to any part of the house or building where there is internet. This can go even further. For example, if you have a property in Germany, you would be able to watch the feed in any part of the world where there is internet.

♦  Analog CCTV feed can only be viewed from a monitor which connects to a DVR. It is possible to access the feed remotely through the DVR but it is not as efficient as IP cameras.

♦  The Network Video Recorder used to record the images of the IP system can also be used for storage and management of data for a remote location, employees, visitors and for the business.

♦  The NVR and IP cameras are more reliable and faster than current DVR based systems.

♦  The NVR systems allow for a longer video surveillance log than before.

♦  IP feed is also available for viewing from mobile devices such as a laptop or a smart phone. You even have the option of using an app to access it. All that is required is an internet connection

♦  With the higher quality of the IP cameras, comes a higher cost than the analog but for the reasons listed above, this is a justified expense.

♦  Analog is fast becoming a more dated technology and IP is the CCTV option of choice for many new installations.

CCTV installation

“Protech Solutions were very professional in carrying out our CCTV installation last week.  They were very knowledgeable and advised us on the best solution for us.  We are very happy with their work and would not hesitate to use them for any future requirements we might have.”
(Nick Aristodimu, Edmonton High School)

CCTV installation

CCTV installation at Edmonton High School

We were asked in by the school to help them to replace their existing analogue CCTV system.

After an initial site survey, we were able to advise them on the best and most cost-effective solution.

Since then, we have been sporadically swapping out the school’s old analogue CCTV for new Lilin CCTV over IP.

On this occasion, we installed 4 replacement cameras.

Installing the CCTV was very straight forward but installing cabling routes into the 100 year old building was the challenge.

Our engineers were climbing through dusty, cob-web ridden lost voids to find the best cable routes but the result was a flawless system, working to full capacity.

We are very pleased to be in partnership with Alpha Entry Management to supply and install their fantastic visitor entry system.

Easy to use, this visitor entry system will certainly enhance the security of your organisation by keeping track of your visitors, staff and pupils in an efficient, user-friendly way.

The system includes a scanner for both staff and pupils to use to enable you to record their entry and exit from the building as well as enabling you to monitor attendance more efficiently.  For visitors, the system allows them to enter their details onto a touchscreen entry system and will also take a photo of the visitor.  The benefit of this is that it will record the visitor information onto a digital file, replacing the need for paper records.  This also enables administrators to browse the system for a full visitor log.

The Alpha Entry Management system also includes a printer so that visitor passes can be printed off on the spot for visitors to use during their visit.

The Visitor Entry System can also double up as a visitor information board (digital signage) allowing you to keep all of your staff, visitors and pupils up to date with the latest news.

As a self-confessed techno-phobe, you would be forgiven for wondering why on earth I would choose to market an education audio visual supply company.
education audio visual

Presenting our competition winner at Parkfields School with their Dell PC

Well apart from the fact that I helped my husband to start the business in 2008, I am actually very passionate about helping schools with the very best classroom AV solutions and education audio visual in general.

Over the past 8 years, I’ve seen some phenomenal changes within the sector; from the early days of interactive whiteboards and projectors to the latest LED interactive screens for schools and PA solutions.

So, in a way, the product advancements really market themselves.  That said, standing out in the crowd of companies supplying AV for schools has been the hardest thing.  I like to think that our bespoke service, looking after each and every audio visual need of our customers, no-matter how obscure, helps us to stand out above all the rest.  We understand budgets and the restrictions of working within the education sector and we are adaptable to these and do everything we can to meet requirements.

Also, our relationships with suppliers enable us not only to offer amazing pricing to schools of education AV products but it also allows me as the Marketing Director to regularly offer special discounted deals on solutions and hardware on anything from smart interactive solutions to Dell Laptops.

The other challenge in being a Marketing Director of an AV supply company is having a comprehensive understanding of the evolving technology but alas, this is something I cannot admit to having.  Luckily, marketing allows me to demonstrate my creative strengths in partnership with the ‘engineer’ director’s knowledge of audio visual solutions when putting together the marketing material.

Board in Space

We are very proud that one of our recent installations helped the students of Sandringham School, St Albans to make history last week when they made the first amateur radio call from the UK to a British astronaut on the space station.

The projector and 4m fixed-frame screen we installed into the school hall late last year made it onto the BBC, displaying the footage of the live broadcast to Major Tim Peake whilst he’s on his missiSandringham_resizedon with the International Space Station to the rest of the school!!

You may remember our stand at the Bett Show last year featured a giant rocket to represent our theme that we are ‘out of this world’ when it comes to installations and pricing…

Well, I guess we could quite literally say that we have made it ‘out of this world’ now!

Proud moment for you….your work has been seen in space!
