Access Control Maintenance Agreement Visit

At this London-based school, maintaining a secure and efficient access control system is essential for the safety of students and staff.

As part of our maintenance agreement, Protech Solutions provides an annual planned service visit to inspect, service, and clean all Paxton Net 2 access control components.

Ensuring Reliable Access Control Through Preventative Maintenance

Each year, we conduct a thorough assessment of all relevant equipment, including control units, batteries, proximity readers, exit buttons, break glasses, video entry phones, intercom units, locks, software, and firmware updates.

As part of the maintenance agreement, our expert team performs visual inspections, operational checks, and necessary cleaning and lubrication to ensure optimal performance. Additionally, we review event log errors to identify any potential issues before they become critical.

Issues Identified during Maintenance Visit

During our maintenance visit, we identified several issues that required immediate attention;

General wear and tear had affected multiple locks and break glass units, while some faults had gone unreported, leading to potential security risks.

We discovered that three intercoms and a proximity reader were not functioning correctly, requiring repairs. Additionally, door closers were slamming dangerously, posing a safety hazard.

A major concern was that 50% of the doors were offline and not communicating with the system, which prevented new fobs from being added. Furthermore, the readers were unable to respond to programmed time zones, disrupting access control schedules.

Whilst we were able to resolve some of these issues at the time of the visit, we will return to resolve the larger issues.

Maintenance Agreement Follow-Up Work

Following our visit, the customer will receive a detailed service report outlining all of the components that require further attention or replacement. This proactive approach helps to prevent unexpected system failures and ensures continued reliability.

To ensure smooth ongoing operation, we will also provide refresher training to help the school’s staff fully understand how to manage and maintain their access control system effectively.

Timings of the Maintenance

To accommodate the school’s schedule, service visit timings are mutually agreed upon in advance, minimizing disruption to daily operations. The initial visit includes system familiarization and the identification of Access Control Units (ACUs).
