Why is it Important to be Maintaining your Security Equipment?
It is normal for the components of any security systems to deteriorate with time. Cameras can be pushed out of alignment or become dirty and access control can also be affected by wear and tear.
Access control doors, maglocks, buttons, card readers, batteries and proximity cards may become worn out at some point and might create a vulnerability in the security system. While a breakdown of a door is easy to identify, an improperly working access control system may go unnoticed for some time until a security incident occurs. This is why we always recommend that you pre-empt any possibile faults with regular maintenance of your security equipment.
Similarly, regular CCTV maintenance aids in identifying and rectifying potential issues before they escalate into significant problems that could compromise the system’s functionality and security. Regular maintenance can significantly increase the lifespan of your CCTV system and therefore reduce your overall costs.
In addition, it is a requirement of European and British standards to ensure that your access control system and CCTV are reliable, which further explains why it is vital that it is maintained regularly.
Ensure your Security Systems are Firing on all Cylinders
Preventative maintenance of your security equipment will pre-empt any issues that occur with your existing access control or CCTV and will minimise the possibility of issues and failure in the future.
Depending on the environment, this should be carried out every 6 to 12 months. See below for a description of what is included in the maintenance checks we carry out.
Why not schedule a visit to discuss maintenance of your existing systems?
Access Control Maintenance
The planned service visits include visual inspections of all equipment, operational checks and cleaning, lubricating or adjusting, where necessary.
The following equipment will be included in the inspection:
- Control Units
- Batteries – These should be dated at install and replaced every 3 years. Charging rate and capacity is also checked (as per regulation)
- Proximity Reader’s – Checking that the reader reacts as it should to both a valid and invalid card
- Exit Buttons – Checking that they are in good functioning condition
- Break Glasses – Ensuring that they have the relevant cover on them to discourage mis-use. Ensuring they provide a mechanical release in emergencies for the door. (as per regulation)
- Video Entry Phones
- Video Intercom Units
- Locks – Ensuring that locks function at their optimum level, misalignment of the magnets is a common issue, and adjustment of door closures is essential to prevent “slamming door” that often cause premature damage to the doors themselves.
- Software
- Firmware upgrades – Ensuring that the software is the latest release as often they contain important security updates and quality updates
- Event Log Errors – Reviewing any alarms created by the access control system such as reoccurring “mains failure”
- Fire relays – Reviewing the doors to see if they have an individual mechanical over-ride to unlock during a fire activation (as per regulation)
CCTV Maintenance
One planned visit every twelve months (annually) during normal working hours and not during school holiday periods for inspection, servicing and cleaning as required for all-inclusive cameras and inclusive hardware. Any inclusive NVR’s will be checked for faults and Firmware up-dates the timings of the annual visit will be agreed mutually between your company or organisation and Protech Solutions Ltd.
The planned service visits include visual inspections of all equipment including CCTV Cameras and NVR’s, operational checks, cleaning/re-aligning where necessary and all access plant required.
Following the service visit, you will recieve a detailed report of any equipment that required further attention or replacement.
