PTZ camera (pan tilt and zoom)

A pan–tilt–zoom camera (PTZ camera) is a camera that is capable of remote directional and zoom control. PTZ is an abbreviation for pan, tilt and zoom and reflects the movement options of the camera. Other types of cameras are ePTZ or virtual pan-tilt-zoom (VPTZ) where a high-resolution camera digitally zooms and pans into portions of the image, with no physical camera movement.

Dome cameras can either be fixed to a wall mounted bracket or mounted to the ceiling, depending on the environment and FOV (field of view) required. Dome cameras come in a wide variety of forms. They can be analogue or IP, fixed or mobile although analogue is becoming less and less popular. For added security, The camera position can be obscured within a clear dome using tinted Perspex. Dome cameras are also available in mini- and micro- versions for discrete deployments and are available in a range of housings to suit various areas. Modern IP dome cameras are also available with built-in video analytics and can receive power through the Ethernet signal cable reducing installation costs.
