  • My projectors are over 4 years old and the image is very dim.Open or Close
    A really common situation as the technology available four years ago has really progressed to be much better in 2012. This can create internal issues as some projectors within an organisation, where some projectors will provide the new brighter images and some will be out-dated. In these situations, swapping out the out-dated projectors may be the only answer. Then replacing these units, consideration needs to be given to whether to stay with the traditional ceiling mounted/long throw projectors, or to move over to the newer short throw/wall mounted units (please see differences above).
  • My projector is still working but the lamp is starting to fail.Open or Close
    We see this every day. If the projector is out of warranty then this incurs real running costs or replacement. For example, a lamp for a standard projector can cost £250.00 and has only a 90 day warranty. Sometimes it's cheaper to replace the projector itself.   • What is the difference between a DLP Projector and an LCD Projector?Open or Close
    A 'filter-free' projector with DLP technology prevents the need for filters to protect the optical system of the projector. Dust in schools, conference rooms, auditoriums, etc, can affect projector performance, which is why regular maintenance is required with LCD projectors. Without it, operational expenses can be increased with early lamp replacement or LCD panel replacement. Therefore, the main difference between a DLP projector and an LCD projector is the total cost of ownership over the life of the projector.
  • What distances do ceiling mounted projectors need to be placed away from the screen?Open or Close
    It depends on the size of the screen, but generally the distance required is between 2m and 3.5m, depending on the make and model of the projector as well as zoom ratio. For example, on a traditional 77" interactive whiteboard, the NEC V260X standard throw projector can sit between 305cm and 337cm, which is fine on a new install where there are few obstructions. However, if there are obstructions or you are replacing a projector, you would need something like the NEC M230X, which gives you the option of between 210cm and 351cm throw ratio. This gives you a much longer range.
  • How much should I budget for a new projector next year?Open or Close
    A good quality projector can be available from as little as £340.00 for a standard throw projector. However, depending on the environment that you are installing the projector into and your individual requirements for its usage, prices can vary from £340 to more than £1000.
  • What is the difference between an ultra short-throw and a standard-throw projector?Open or Close
    An ultra short-throw projector sits as little as 40cm away from the image and a standard short throw can sit between 2 and 3.5m from the image on a standard 77" board. Therefore, it is impossible for you to position yourself between the projector and image, causing a shadow and you will also avoid the glare.
  • Can Ultra short throw projectors be installed in any environment?Open or Close
    No. Whereas on standard throw projectors, the size of the image is dependent on how far away the projector sits from the viewing area, the size of the image on ultra short throw projectors is dependent on how far above the viewing area the projector sits, therefore the ceiling height is a key factor when installing them. There must be a certain distance between the projector and the image. If the projector needs to be installed to the ceiling which is low, then the board needs to be moved down along with the projector. Also, it is not advised to install ultra short throw projectors with flexible screens as you may get distortion nearer to the bottom of the screen because of the nature of the lens in ultra short throw projectors.
