Ubiquiti Wireless Solution - The Client

Shaftesbury High School is a special needs school located in the London Borough of Harrow with capacity for approximately 160 students, aged between 11 and 19, with learning, emotional, behavioural, autistic, communication, medical, physical, sensory and social needs.

The Brief

The school approached us to help them to acquire a complete wireless solution across the school. They also asked us to provide 28 new L/L network outlets. Established over two sites approximately 2 miles apart, the school requested our help to upgrade all of the display equipment in their classrooms. They were looking for something to replace the existing aging technology in each classroom.

After carrying out an initial site survey, we recommended a BenQ solution which would not only meet their budget but also tick all the boxes in terms of ease of use and durability.

The Solution

First of all, we visited the site to carry out a through site survey. During our visit, we looked at the current solution and the performance levels they wanted to achieve. From that, we were able to ascertain that the new wireless would require 29 access points across the school, including all classrooms; the dining area and the hall as well as the staff room and various meeting rooms and offices.

With regard to the network points; several of these were run through the suspended ceiling from the local cabinet. Where possible, existing containment was used.

In addition, a Netgear JGS524PE, 24 port 1 GB with 12 PoE ports switch was installed in the Office, A1, IT Office along with A7 cabinets.
PoE injectors were also installed for the 5 of the Access Points.
